Flash back to around 15 years ago when I was still studying. My dad made the difficult decision to resign from his job due to circumstances at his company. It was a challenging time as our family still needed income to cover our living expenses. My mom had been a stay-at-home mom since I was little, and my sister was working. However, it was apparent that a graduate salary in Indonesia wouldn’t suffice for our needs. Besides, our parents were determined not to rely on their children’s money.

During that tough period, we decided to pray together as a family. Every evening, the four of us gathered together to pray for our family’s situation and for my dad to find a job. It wasn’t easy, especially considering his age; securing a job in Indonesia through regular applications seemed unlikely. Still, we persisted in our prayers—1 month passed, then 2, then 3, and so on.

After nearly a year, one fine morning, my dad received a call from a friend on our house landline. This friend had been offered a job that didn’t interest him, but he thought of my dad and his qualifications. He suggested my dad might be a good fit. Following an interview, my dad secured the job.

Our family faced tremendous challenges during this time, yet it became abundantly clear that God’s providence was at work. This experience highlighted that prayers are answered. From that point on, praying together as a family held greater significance for us.

This story strengthened our faith, and I hope it may do the same for you. Matthew 6:26 says, ‘Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?’

I encourage you to pray to God. If possible, pray as a family. For parents, praying together can be a meaningful way to share your faith with your kids, teaching them about our heavenly Father who provides for us. Wishing you a blessed day. (LGA)
