Yesterday, my colleagues and I were undergoing boat training to launch our jet boat into the water while underway at a speed of 5 knots. When the jet boat hit the water, suddenly the incoming ship’s wake struck the bow of the jet boat, pushing it toward the stern of the mother ship and posing the danger of capsizing. The jet boat was pulled toward the stern, and suddenly the trainer shouted, “More revs!” With more power applied, we managed to escape that danger and continue with our boat training.
For several seconds, I felt that my heart was shaken, knowing that it was a near-miss incident. Through this event, God spoke to me personally and made me realise that He is always in control and with me.
In our lives, sometimes when we are troubled and in a difficult situation, God speaks to us but we cannot hear Him. All we can hear and think about are our own thoughts and concerns. We know that the only way to enable us to hear His voice is by making Him bigger than we are.
Lent is just around the corner, and during Lent, we always abstain and fast. Why do we do that? It is because we want to ensure that our flesh does not control our lives, but instead He does. Through abstaining and fasting, we aim to control our weaknesses, our lusts, our desires to sin, or fall into the traps of evil. Therefore, instead of us being in control of our lives, we let God be in control. Psalm 37:5-6 says, ‘Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.’
